Our commitments
Childcare serves every kind of family, and the children in it will live with the planet we leave them. These are the commitments we hold ourselves to, as a workplace and in the software we build.
- Diversity, equity and inclusion
- Sustainability
- Work-life balance
- Social impact
- Career growth and learning
Diversity, equity and inclusion
We hire, pay and promote on merit, treat everyone fairly, and build RoundUp so every family can use it.
In our workplace
- We do not discriminate on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, family status, or any other status protected by law.
- Every job post includes its pay range, and every candidate for a role is asked the same questions and scored the same way.
- We review pay once a year for unexplained gaps between people in the same role, and fix any we find.
- We provide accommodations for disability, pregnancy and religious practice, including during interviews.
- Everyone completes anti-bias and anti-harassment training when they join and once a year after that.
In the product
- The RoundUp app is available in English, Spanish and French, and families can read announcements in their own language.
- Family profiles support multiple guardians and custody arrangements, so every family's real structure fits.
- Billing handles subsidy and co-pay families without singling them out.
- We design to the WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standard, including screen readers, text scaling and color contrast. Read about accessibility in RoundUp.
- AI features are reviewed for biased or harmful output before release, and never make decisions about a child on their own.
Environmental sustainability
We measure our footprint every year, cut waste in how we build and run RoundUp, and help centers go paperless.
We've signed the SME Climate Commitment: we will halve our greenhouse gas emissions within ten years, reach net zero before 2050, and disclose our progress every year.
Paperless childcare
- RoundUp replaces paper sign-in sheets, daily reports, incident forms, invoices and enrollment packets.
- Digital is the default for every form RoundUp supports.
- We offer state reports electronically wherever the agency accepts them.
In the cloud
- RoundUp runs on serverless cloud services that use computing power only while they are handling a request.
- We delete or archive data on a set retention schedule, which also protects children's and families' privacy.
- We clean up unused cloud resources every quarter, and publish our cloud carbon footprint once a year.
How we work
- We meet by video by default, and travel when it clearly helps a center or the team.
- We buy durable and refurbished equipment, and recycle or donate retired devices through certified e-waste vendors.
- We do not make environmental claims we cannot back with data.
Work-life balance
Rested caregivers give better care, and rested engineers build safer software. We protect time off, keep hours predictable, and make sure breaks actually happen.
- Everyone gets paid time off and paid sick time, and is expected to take at least one full week off each year.
- Each role has set or core hours. Nobody is expected to answer messages outside them, except whoever is on call, and on-call time is shared on a written rotation and paid or given back.
- Classroom staff get every break the law requires, with ratio coverage planned so a break never leaves a room out of ratio.
- Roles that don't need to be on site can work remotely, and anyone can ask for a flexible schedule and get a written answer.
Social impact
Good childcare is hard to find and hard to run, especially for small, rural and low-income programs. We share what we build beyond our paying customers.
- We're a member of Pledge 1%, with our giving focused on early childhood education, child welfare and the early childhood workforce.
- Everyone on the team gets paid volunteer days each year.
- Our Help Center, guides and blog stay free and public, so any center can use them without buying RoundUp.
- RoundUp supports state childcare subsidy programs and the CACFP food program, so centers serving low-income families can claim the funding they're owed.
- We partner with community colleges and early childhood programs on internships and student placements. Partnerships never involve sharing child or family data.
Career growth and learning
Early childhood educators leave the field too often. We want people to grow here, and we want RoundUp built by people who know childcare from the inside.
- Everyone gets a yearly learning budget and paid time to learn during work hours.
- Required training, licensing hours and credential renewals are paid time, at no cost to the employee.
- We support early childhood educators in earning the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and moving up the Oregon Registry, with a pay review when they do.
- Everyone has a written growth plan, regular one-on-ones, and written promotion criteria for their role.
- Open roles are posted internally first, and classroom staff can move into RoundUp roles in onboarding, support, training and product.
Holding ourselves to it
We report on these commitments once a year and review them every 12 months. To report an accessibility or inclusion problem, or to suggest an improvement, email support@roundupece.com. We reply within 10 business days.
